5An excellent all in one projector
By Samuel B. Backus
I was hesitant to buy this projector, as there are not many reviews out yet, but its predecessor, the moviemate 72 had wonderful reviews so I gave it a shot. I am very glad I did, this projector does everything I want it to. It will play DVD's in pretty much any format (including AVI), projects well onto my apartment wall, and the built in speakers are decent, though obviously not spectacular. The only caveat I have is that there is no lens shift built in, which means the projector needs to be pointing straight at the surface it is projecting on. It does allow you to adjust keystone, which means if you are projecting up or down, it maintains a rectangular image, and has a manual focus and zoom. It is not well suited for use as a home theater projector, as it only has 1 hdmi input, 1 component input, and a VGA input, but I suppose if you are building a home theater you will likely have a stereo receiver regardless, which can handle the cable switching needs.I am very impressed with the brightness, when on full I can use it during the day(with the blinds closed, though some light does come in), and at night it is easy to shift it to "eco" mode, which is supposed to save bulb life. The main benefit I see or actually hear, is the decrease in fan noise. On high brightness, the noise can be a little distracting, but it is by no means overpowering, and with lower brightness it is hard to hear at all.The projector is very portable, coming with a built in handle and a carry case, I have already brought it over to a few friends houses with ease.I should mention, this is the only projector I have ever owned, so my opinion should not be given too much weight.

4Epson 85HD Movie Mate Rocks
By Lisa
The Epson Movie mate is easy to set up for movie nights in our backyard or for a neighborhood party. The picture is phonomenal and we actually need a bigger screen to take advantage of the quality( we have a 220" grey portable outdoor screen). The only drawback is that it does not have digital optical output for the sound and most of the newer soundbar equipment requires this. You can buy a co-ax to digital converter, but It would be great if it already had it...I can't wait to use it all summer.

5Wonderful All-In-One
By Larry from Iowa
Our church was looking for a simple to use projector, both for using with a computer (Powerpoint, etc), and to use when the Youth want to show a movie or something. The Epson Moviemate 85HD fit the bill perfectly!.Super easy to set up, for movies just plug it in and insert the DVD. That's something any teacher can use easily! Using with a computer is only a little more difficult. I have seen projectors that were brighter and more contrasty, but, really, in a somewhat darkened room the image is really quite good and plenty bright. It is also surprisingly compact and light for a projector that includes a built in DVD player. Sound is quite good for a small to moderate sized room, but if you are using it in a really BIG room (like the Sanctuary), you will need to hook it into some kind of sound reinforcement. It has digital audio connector on the back, which I haven't used yet, and a small headphone jack on the front which works fine. The remote is the best I've ever seen in a portable projector, and includes controls for everything, including sound. It is also blessedly simple to use, as sometimes these remotes are hard to figure out.In short, if you need portable projector and would like the simplicity of a built in DVD player, you won't go wrong with the EPSON Moviemate 85HD.Update 10/11/2011: Been using this for several months now. Really pleased with it. Used it last weekend to show a movie outside on a garage door. Very cool. I will say that when using outdoors, you might want to hook up external powered speakers, as the internal amp, which is just fine for indoor use, might not quite be up to the sound requirements before a mid-size group of teens in the great outdoors. We hooked up some powered computer speakers to the headphone jack on the front, and it worked just great. Continue to reocmmend, this is a nice unit, whether using the built-in DVD drive or an external source like a computer.
